Marvelous Mathematicians
Last week we finished our first math unit on place value, ordering numbers, and rounding. We took our first math test on Friday. Ask your child to tell you about the cool new gadget we have in our classroom that gives them immediate results from multiple choice assessments. We were all very excited! :-) The students are coming home today with the results from that assessment. Please review any incorrect problems with your child.

Wonderful Writers and Word Wizards
This week the students started working in their writer's notebooks. We talked about how to generate ideas for our writing by thinking of people, places or things that matter to us and then listing moments we remember linked to the person, place or object. The starategy is really helping us zoom in and focus our writing. This is going to be a great year for writing! They have so many wonderful memories and moments to write about.
This week Boggle continued to attract the interest of many students as they finished classwork. Many of the students earned over a hundred points this week. Our Boggle champ of the week ended up being Ethan with over 200 points! Congratulations!

MONDAY
The Friday Facts didn't make it into our Friday Folders! On Monday, September 12th, we will be commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Please have your child wear read, white and blue to school!
Our first full week
This was a fantastic week in our classroom! We have been busy learning the routines and and settling into third grade. Just a reminder that the book orders are due on Monday.
I asked the students what I should write about and was given a list of items to post! So, here are the highlights from this past week:
We started a few fun activities that students can choose to do when they complete their classwork. One choice students have is to do BOGGLE. Our Boggle champ for the week was Natalie! Students can also choose an NFL Challenge.(Never Finished Learning) In addition, students have started "bucket-filling" this week. Ask your child to tell you about this great way to make others feel good through positive notes. I will also talk more about these activities at Back to School Night.
Today we also wrote letters to our 3rd grade penpals from a small rural town in Minnesota. This will be a great way for the students to practice their letter writing skills as well as learn about school and life in a small town in another state.
I am excited about all that is in store for us as we journey through third grade this year!!

Wonderful!
We had a great first 2 days of school. I think we are all excited to begin this year's journey in 3rd grade! By the time you are reading this, you would have seen the homework sheet. Homework is due daily, unless otherwise noted. I will explain homework in more detail at back to school night, but if you have any questions before then please feel free to email or call the school. I look forward to meeting all of the parents at Back to School Night on September 14th.
