Reading
Mrs.Ryan reads a book every day after lunch. The book that Mrs.Ryan is reading is called The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. So far it's about a bunny that loses his owner and goes on an adventure to go back to her but a man finds him and they do terrible stuff to him. Also, the other thing we are doing every day is reading silently after lunch. I really engoy reading, so I am so happy to have reading as one of our things.

RTI & Science
We have started RTI and we are reading the story called The Waterfall. We are also making nametags. RTI is Monday,Tusday,Thursday, and Friday. We go there every time after our recess.
We are doing science and so far in the back of our room we are growing a plant called the Wisconsin Fast Plant and they are growing very well. After a couple days we check them and then we take them out of their sheet and we get buddied up with a partner and we have a science book and we look at our plant and we write about it. We draw a picture of it and then we talk about the plant. Science is lots of fun but we don't only do stuff about plants we also do math in science and that is why science is the best in any school you could think of.

Oops!! :-(
I have to start off by apologizing. I am truly sorry. I somehow misplaced the conference schedule from Back to School Night. I have sent home a blank schedule with the students today. Please write down your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice for a conference time. I will do my best to accomodate everyone. If your first choice is the time that you had chosen at back to school night, please put a star next to your child's name in the box so that I can make sure to allow you to keep your conference at that time. If there are any questions, please feel free to send me an email. I will send home a conference slip with your scheduled time tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding.

Marvelous Mathematicians
Last week we finished our first math unit on place value, ordering numbers, and rounding. We took our first math test on Friday. Ask your child to tell you about the cool new gadget we have in our classroom that gives them immediate results from multiple choice assessments. We were all very excited! :-) The students are coming home today with the results from that assessment. Please review any incorrect problems with your child.

Wonderful Writers and Word Wizards
This week the students started working in their writer's notebooks. We talked about how to generate ideas for our writing by thinking of people, places or things that matter to us and then listing moments we remember linked to the person, place or object. The starategy is really helping us zoom in and focus our writing. This is going to be a great year for writing! They have so many wonderful memories and moments to write about.
This week Boggle continued to attract the interest of many students as they finished classwork. Many of the students earned over a hundred points this week. Our Boggle champ of the week ended up being Ethan with over 200 points! Congratulations!

MONDAY
The Friday Facts didn't make it into our Friday Folders! On Monday, September 12th, we will be commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11. Please have your child wear read, white and blue to school!
Our first full week
This was a fantastic week in our classroom! We have been busy learning the routines and and settling into third grade. Just a reminder that the book orders are due on Monday.
I asked the students what I should write about and was given a list of items to post! So, here are the highlights from this past week:
We started a few fun activities that students can choose to do when they complete their classwork. One choice students have is to do BOGGLE. Our Boggle champ for the week was Natalie! Students can also choose an NFL Challenge.(Never Finished Learning) In addition, students have started "bucket-filling" this week. Ask your child to tell you about this great way to make others feel good through positive notes. I will also talk more about these activities at Back to School Night.
Today we also wrote letters to our 3rd grade penpals from a small rural town in Minnesota. This will be a great way for the students to practice their letter writing skills as well as learn about school and life in a small town in another state.
I am excited about all that is in store for us as we journey through third grade this year!!
